Analysis of Optical Sensor Data for Improved Re-entry Prediction
Service for improving the re-entry (RE) prediction of artificial objects into the atmosphere through increased use of astrometric observations within the EU SST (Space Surveillance and Tracking) system: Development of a set of requirements, indicators, and operational procedures to optimize the use of astrometric data for the RE service. The service comprises three milestones: 1. Milestone 1: Preparation of a detailed work schedule; definition of requirements for planning and conducting astrometric observations of RE-near objects; definition of requirements for the quality of astrometric observations; preparation of an interim report, which also constitutes a result of project 101242939 - HE23-24 TOP5. 2. Milestone 2: Analysis of the applicability of astrometric observation requirements and recommendations for COPLA; definition and description of observation strategies for objects approaching RE; determination of the impact of astrometric observations on BC estimation. 3. Milestone 3: Execution of a first observation campaign to demonstrate the application of recommendations and the impact of requirements from Work Packages 2 and 3, utilizing a network of at least 5 telescopes located in at least 5 different VLA (Very Large Areas); execution of a second observation campaign to provide solutions for problems identified during the first campaign, utilizing at least the same number of sensors; preparation of a final report summarizing all results, analyses, and recommendations, to be presented at a final review.
