Upgrading of Nygårdstunnelen on National Road 555

Upgrading of the 864-meter long Nygårdstunnelen in Bergen according to tunnel safety regulations: replacement and renewal of equipment inside and outside the tunnel. This includes a new ventilation system, new lighting installations with tunnel roof lights and continuous evacuation lights, an extinguishing water system for the fire brigade, a new system for handling emissions and tunnel washing water, new signage with barriers, lane signals, and variable signs, emergency stations with fire extinguishers and telephones, a camera system with full tunnel coverage and alarm function, a new technical building in the existing mountain room, the establishment of a new stop section at the technical building, and the demolition of the existing air treatment plant. The tunnel was opened in 1999 and has an annual daily traffic of approx. 45,000 vehicles.
