Genomic Epidemiology and Public Health Bioinformatics Training
Notice title: SPR/260834 - Provision of genomic epidemiology and public health bioinformatics training
Training in genomic epidemiology and public health bioinformatics: Strengthening capacities through interdisciplinary trainings crucial for responding to pandemics and major public health events. The trainings support countries in building their capacity in genomic epidemiology and bioinformatics for public health purposes and increase interdisciplinary collaboration among bioinformaticians, epidemiologists, and microbiologists. The goal is the routine use of genomic information for surveillance, preparedness, and outbreak response. Activities include enhancing data sharing and collaborations between public health institutions and ECDC, and fostering cross-border collaborations. Target groups are professionals in public health institutions with and without a background in computational biology and bioinformatics. For professionals with a background: enhancing and extending skills in public health bioinformatics, and better understanding the needs of epidemiology and public health microbiology. For professionals without a background: gaining a better understanding of how genomic epidemiology can be applied in a public health context, becoming familiar with concepts and formats in microbial genomics, understanding bioinformatic tools and pipelines for epidemiological analyses, and gaining an overview of principles for data storage, management, and sharing, with a focus on sequencing data and metadata.
