Urban-Architectural Concept for the New Philharmonic Hall in Kalisz
Urban-architectural concept for the new Kalisz Philharmonic Hall in Kalisz, Majkowska Street: including necessary infrastructure, public space development, and communication links to other public utility buildings. The planning area is located in the Piskorzewie district and covers plot 6/3 as well as parts of plots 7/7 and 7/8 in cadastral area 018 Piskorzewie, with a total area of 17,564 m². The project involves the demolition of existing buildings, removal of concrete block paving, construction of the new philharmonic building with accompanying functions, and new green area arrangement. The maximum building height is 25 m. The building will house cultural and educational rooms, administrative and office rooms, and technical facilities, including concert halls, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, lobbies, guest rooms, storage, and technical rooms. The philharmonic hall is intended for local and national music events, to serve as the city's music center, provide space for visual art forms, and fulfill city-forming functions. A separate communication hub planned on the same plot must be considered, consisting of a parking lot for 150 cars (approx. 3,000 m²) and a bus depot for 2-4 buses. Main functional rooms include: a concert hall with a minimum capacity of 750 seats for unamplified and amplified concerts; a chamber hall with a minimum capacity of 100 seats for unamplified and amplified concerts; a choir rehearsal room with a minimum area of 50 m² and a minimum height of 4.5 m for 20 to 50 people; an orchestra rehearsal room with acoustic conditions similar to the concert hall, a minimum area of 225 m² and a height of 5 to 6 m; a sound recording studio with a control room; 4 vocal/practice rooms with appropriate acoustics. The main entrance is to lead to a representative foyer serving as a publicly accessible space for various uses such as events, exhibitions, multimedia shows, and simultaneously as a foyer for the halls. Separate or common foyers are permissible. A clear and functional connection between the foyer area and visitor services such as ticket offices, cloakrooms, toilets, and a cafe must be ensured.
