Restoration of Heathland for Heathland Program 3.0 at Sylt Airfield

Restoration of heathland: clearing of approximately 10 ha of overgrown heathland up to the forest boundary, excluding a 1.495 ha forest stand. Woody plants are to be removed manually or mechanically, including root mass; pines to be sawn close to the ground; birches and bird cherries to be removed including roots. Invasive species such as gorse, hogweed, blackberry, lupine, honeysuckle, bird cherry, serviceberry, and potato rose are to be removed. Resulting biomass is to be shredded and transported. Subsequently, sod and topsoil are to be removed from up to 5.5 ha of heathland, with an average thickness of approximately 8 cm, loaded, and transported. Plagging is to be carried out in small sections, maximum 1,200 m² contiguous areas, excluding grassland habitats (LRT 6510). Personnel requires a reliability check according to § 7 Luftsicherheitsgesetz (LuftSiG) and must be accompanied within the Sylt airport security area. The disposal of all materials must be coordinated; costs for loading and transporting plagging material to agricultural land are approximately 13.00 €/m³ plus lime addition (84.00 €/t, requirement: 8 t/ha). Only light machinery with low ground pressure is permitted.
