Sustainable Economic Opportunities for Youth in Turkana West and Lokichoggio
Consulting services for promoting sustainable economic opportunities for youth in Turkana West and Lokichoggio, divided into four interlinked work packages: 1. Career guidance and counselling for 2,000 youths in Kakuma, Kalobeyei, and Lokichoggio, including personal discovery, career orientation (career clubs, self-assessment, local economic opportunities, role-model talks), psychosocial resilience ("Bounce-Back" track with group sessions, individual counselling, stress management, self-awareness, goal-setting, adaptive thinking, peer support), and employability skills/labour-market linkages (training in CV writing, job applications, interview techniques, communication, teamwork, time management, professional conduct, short attachments). Deliverables: inception report, training measures for 2,000 youths, viable psychosocial support activities, formal linkages to NEA/KNCCI, final report. 2. Strengthening MSME performance through Business Development Services: Training (GIZ 10-day entrepreneurship/financial literacy curriculum) and mentorship for 800 current and aspiring entrepreneurs and VSLA members from Kakuma, Kalobeyei, Lopur, Song'ot, and Lokichogio. Focus on budgeting, record-keeping, pricing, investment planning, cash-flow management, responsible credit use, decision-making, innovation, value addition, and market linkages. Each participant receives six one-to-one mentoring sessions over three months (two per month). Deliverables: inception report, verification records, up to 27 trainings for 800 participants, 4,800 mentoring sessions, final report. 3. Outcome harvesting on ten public-private agreements concluded in August 2024 after 84 Public-Private Dialogues (PPDs) held across seven wards. Identification of actual changes (e.g., reduced administrative barriers, improved service delivery, increased formalisation/expansion, stronger public-private coordination). All outcome statements must be verified by a third party. Deliverables: inception report, outcome database, validated outcome set, final report, facilitated learning workshop. 4. Development of a Local Economic Development (LED) plan and Youth Engagement Strategy for Kakuma Municipality, established in November 2024. This includes engaging municipal leadership, constituting an LED steering committee, stakeholder consultations, a rapid local economy assessment, facilitating a shared vision and strategic priorities, formulating an actionable strategy, and validation through public consultations. further items as per the tender documents.
