Restoration and Conversion of Seven Venetian Neoria into a Cultural Center in Chania

Restoration, enhancement, and functional reassignment of the complex of seven Venetian Neoria in the eastern harbor basin of the Venetian Port in Chania: The building complex has a total area of approx. 4,175 m² and consists of seven stone, vaulted structures, with each Neorio being approx. 50 m long, 9 m wide, and an average of 10 m high. The works include the stabilization and reinforcement of the building structure, including external insulation of the vaults and connection to the surrounding area. Furthermore, an architectural analysis and design for the Neoria complex, as well as the reconstruction of the South Gate, are planned. The later masonry facade on the north side will be replaced by new, specially designed glass facades. Inside the complex, new layouts and special constructions made of wood, glass, and metal are planned for the intended functions. Two units will be created: The first unit (Neoria N1-N4) serves as a space for temporary exhibitions and events. The second unit (Neoria N6-N7) accommodates an area for lectures and performing arts with a capacity of 170 people, offices, and a refreshment zone. The intermediate Neorio N5 forms the entrance to the complex and includes a sales area and a permanent exhibition of the monument. Additionally, electromechanical installations, lighting (use/highlighting), and energy planning are foreseen, including thermal insulation, installation of thermal break frames, installation of LED luminaires, and air conditioning using high-efficiency heat pumps.
