Temporary Care for Stray Animals: includes the temporary care and accommodation of stray dogs, cats, and other small companion and hobby animals for the cities of Raasepori and Hanko, and the municipality of Inkoo. Services comprise ensuring the animals' basic needs (accommodation, food, water, exercise, social care), veterinary first aid or appropriate treatment for illness or injury (e.g., acute care, splinting of fractures, pain medication, but no surgical interventions), reporting to police and authorities in case of suspected animal welfare offenses or if owners of unregistered dogs are found, microchipping and registration upon rehoming, tracing owner and contact details (incl. access to the Ruokavirasto dog register), public announcement of stray animals if the owner is not immediately identified, a retention period of 15 days from owner notification or public announcement, after which the provider has the right to sell, rehome, or euthanize the animal. Furthermore, statistics and reporting (records of captured animals for at least 3 years, annual reporting of animal numbers by species to municipalities) and, if necessary, the collection and capture of stray animals are part of the scope. The service provider must have a designated responsible person, sufficient expertise, proof of no prior animal welfare convictions, suitable education or equivalent qualification, and a sufficient number of qualified personnel. In 2024, there were 37 stray animals (29 cats, 8 dogs); these numbers are not binding.
