Brick Facade for the House of Education, IHK Ulm
Brick facade for the new construction of a 5-story educational center: The building comprises 6 floors including a basement, with a gross floor area of approx. 3,329 m² and a gross volume of approx. 13,085 m³. Overall dimensions are approx. 28.36 x 23.36 x 22.50 m (L x W x H). The south gable wall is designed as a closed fire wall, the north gable wall is predominantly closed and features a slight 11° bend. The top edge of the ground floor is at 478.1 m above sea level. Execution is planned to start around calendar week 45/2026. The longitudinal facades to the east and west are designed as double-skin glass facade constructions. The supporting structure consists of conventional solid construction for the basement, fire wall, and escape staircase, and a predominantly visible timber construction (glued laminated timber beam layer with cross-laminated timber planking, glued laminated timber columns and beams, cross-laminated timber walls) for the remaining areas. The double facades consist of an impact glass pane, an external load-bearing timber structure, and room-oriented thermal glazing. Horizontal building bracing is achieved by designing all floor slabs as stiffening slab elements. Vertical building bracing is achieved by the interaction of the stiffening reinforced concrete wall slabs with the stiffening infills of the northern gable wall and the diagonals of the double facades.
