Site Investigation for Mountmellick Flood Relief Scheme
Site investigation for the Mountmellick Flood Relief Scheme: Execution of exploratory holes using various techniques (boreholes, trial pits, slit trenches, dynamic probing, window sampling, peat probing, soil infiltration testing) to reduce risks from unforeseen ground conditions. Acquisition of ground and groundwater information, initial assessment of hydrogeological and geo-environmental characteristics along the proposed route, installation of instrumentation to capture long-term behavior and seasonal variations, and ascertainment of underground workings. The project includes the construction of 1,191 m of flood defence walls and 5,366 m of embankments in Mountmellick, County Laois, along the River Owenass, Rover Pound, Clontygar Stream, and Carroon Stream. Three SMR features (graveyard, church, historic town) are located at 75 m, 95 m, and 170 m from the proposed structures.
