Fire Protection Planning for Virginia Depot Energy Center
Fire protection planning: according to AHO Booklet No. 17 (2023) for the new construction of the energy center (EZ) in the Virginia Depot (VD) geothermal project. The EZ generates up to 110 MW/th district heating from renewable energies and is supplied with geothermal heat via a thermal water pipeline (TWT) of approx. 350 m length from the underground facility (UTA). Functional areas include a 110 kV customer facility with MS system and frequency converters, NSHV with transformers/FUs, heat exchangers and large heat pumps with thermal water and district heating distribution as well as general piping, refrigeration machines with recoolers on the roof (DG) and general social rooms on the upper floors (OGs). A PV system is also to be planned on the green roof. The footprint of the EZ is approx. +3,300 m², the gross floor area (GFA) approx. +15,000 m² and the gross volume (GV) approx. +77,000 m³, with a wall height of approx. 24 m and E+4 stories (including 2 intermediate floors), as well as a partial basement. The room structure includes large halls with high load assumptions (e.g., heat pumps, recoolers, transformers). Temporary insertion openings and construction states for heavy equipment (e.g., heat pump, 110 kV transformer) are to be planned. The foundation conditions are challenging due to temporary use as a gravel pit and landfill.
