Timber, Steel, Window, and Facade Works for BMUKN Extension Building
Timber construction works for the extension building of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUKN) in Berlin-Mitte: approx. 145 m³ glulam columns, approx. 50 m³ glulam edge beams, approx. 3,150 m² cross-laminated timber ceilings D 240 mm including steel components and fire protection cladding, approx. 890 m² non-load-bearing external wall elements in timber frame construction made of laminated veneer lumber including insulation and cladding, approx. 360 m² hip roof elements with integrated dormers in timber frame construction made of laminated veneer lumber including insulation and cladding, approx. 155 m² non-load-bearing F90 external wall as a multi-part drywall construction. Also, steel construction works with approx. 5 tons of steel beams, approx. 38 tons of steel angles for supporting the ceilings, approx. 19 tons of steel frames as a mansard roof construction. Window works include 217 units of multi-part timber-aluminum windows with ventilation sashes, impact panes, and integrated railings; 18 units of multi-part timber-aluminum windows with ventilation sashes, impact panes, and integrated railings for dormer mansard roofs; 12 units of aluminum windows; 12 units of timber-aluminum windows as F90 fire protection windows; and 32 units of cassette roller blinds for glare protection. Facade claddings consist of approx. 895 m² curtain-ventilated facade made of PV elements, approx. 235 m² curtain-ventilated facade made of glass elements with PV optics, approx. 675 m² curtain-ventilated facade made of fiber cement panels, each including connection flashings, window frames, window sills, and insulation; approx. 180 m² mansard roof cladding with aluminum standing seam roofing and mounted PV or glass elements including connection flashings, dormer claddings, window sills, box gutters, and insulation; approx. 460 m of galvanized steel downpipes, approx. 80 m of parapet capping including internal cladding. Installation of PV modules with 7,800 m of cabling, 15 units of inverters, and 6 units of switching units. Execution begins within 12 working days after notification (expected by 12.10.2026) and is to be completed by calendar week 13, 2028. Binding individual deadlines are start of site assembly in calendar week 5, 2027, and building envelope (installation of facade elements including windows) in calendar week 42, 2027. The building aims for BNB Gold certification and the outdoor facilities for BNB Silver certification; the contractor must cooperate in the certification process and observe requirements regarding low waste, noise, and dust, as well as federal soil protection and contaminated sites regulations. Material requirements according to Annex 01 (quality level 5) and declaration of all materials/products/components via Annex 02 (Excel) including technical data sheets and safety data sheets are required.
