Ecological Risk Assessment of Non-Native Tree Species

Development of an assessment concept for the ecological risk of non-native, forestry-relevant tree species in Germany, based on functional traits (FT). The concept aims to examine the suitability of FT for mapping ecological risk, evaluate empirical foundations, and derive operationalizable thresholds. The assessment concerns tree species without a nature conservation invasiveness assessment (NIB) according to Nehring et al. 2025, which are already cultivated or discussed in Germany. The methodology of the NIB according to Nehring et al. 2025 forms the basis for deriving requirements for an FT-based model and assessing the ecological risk of tree species without an NIB assessment.
