Restoration work for the renovation and restoration of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Stendal
Restoration of walls and vaults in the nave and south transept of the listed Gothic St. Nicholas Cathedral in Stendal (construction started approx. 1420): Removal of a white paint layer (1950) on brick surfaces of interior walls and columns, new application in room-typical brick red using red distemper retouching or new coating; repainting of vaults with lime or distemper paint; preparatory work including crack repairs, plaster patching, and stabilization, including necessary caulking. Work must be carried out under the constant presence of experienced diploma restorers or M.A. restorers and under the professional supervision of a restoration site management and the responsible monument protection authorities. Estimated quantities: approx. 2,000 m² foil protection, approx. 600 m² art protection/enclosures, approx. 405 m production of dust-tight wall connections, approx. 300 m² production of dust-tight vault connections, approx. 125 m² removal of loose paint layers, approx. 430 m crack caulking on vaults, approx. 190 m crack repairs on walls, approx. 780 m² architectural surfaces/bricks in vaults cleaning, consolidation, retouching, approx. 2,200 m² vault caps/plaster cleaning and painting, approx. 4,040 m² consolidation of brick-imitating paint layers on walls, approx. 3,550 m² brick wall surfaces architectural elements cleaning, consolidation, partial addition of distemper glaze and brick joint lining, approx. 1,750 m² wall plaster surfaces cleaning, consolidation and painting, approx. 2,490 m² removal of white paint layer, consolidation, new application of distemper glaze and brick joint lining; additionally, damage mapping, production of sample areas, photo documentation, and documentation materials.
