Study on the Climate Protection Impact of Floodplains: Creation of a nationwide overview of the climate protection impact of floodplains based on current scientific knowledge. This includes estimating the contribution of renatured and near-natural floodplains, as well as the potential of future floodplain renaturations, to carbon storage and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon stock in soil and vegetation, and the net fixation of greenhouse gases, are to be considered. A suitable methodology for nationwide greenhouse gas balancing of recent and old floodplains must be developed and applied to quantify the climate protection impact of near-natural floodplains and the benefits of renaturation projects; further items as per the tender documents.
