Partially Mechanized Timber Harvesting in Venner Moor
Partially mechanized timber harvesting: predominantly pine, deciduous trees only for lane creation (vertical blue lines). Use of a heavy-duty harvester and a forwarder, which must begin timber transport no later than one week after the harvester; tracks may need to be fitted. High requirements for lane adherence (lane marking: double blue cross-lines), minimal use of hiking trails (partially only earth-stable), and no ruts deeper than 10 cm on the lanes. A coupled GPS system between harvester and forwarder, GPS recording of own movements, and daily submission of the harvester protocol are required. Marked (red) trees that cannot be reached from the lane after felling remain in the stand. Use of a mechanical felling wedge. Asphalted roads must be cleaned daily at the end of work if soiled. Piling areas are marked as 'Polter' and paths as 'yellow line' on the accompanying map.
