Transformation Planning BEW Module 1: Geothermal Energy Use for Stadtwerke Schwerin
Notice title: Transformationsplanung BEW Modul 1 für die Stadtwerke Schwerin - Teilleistung Los 4: Nutzung von Geothermie für die Stadtwerke Schwerin GmbH (SWS)
Expert opinion on the extended use of deep and medium-deep geothermal energy for the Schwerin site: Preparation of a grant guideline-compliant expert opinion as a component of the transformation plan of Stadtwerke Schwerin GmbH within the framework of the feasibility study for the Federal Funding for Efficient Heating Networks Module 1. The opinion includes the processing of existing analyses, their supplementation with further data sources and experience, and calculations for integration into a coherent overall concept. For the developed variants, the required electrical connection capacities are to be determined, site-specific grid connection options at the required voltage level are to be examined, and any necessary upgrade requirements for the existing electrical supply structure and the cost of the grid connection are to be technically described and estimated. The cost for connecting large electrical consumers and for connecting to the existing district heating network must be optimized during site selection. At the Lankow site, a geothermal plant has been in operation since 2024, pumping 56°C warm thermal water from approx. 1,200 m depth, extracting heat, and reinjecting it into the ground at 20°C. The plant taps into an approx. 45 m thick Postera sandstone horizon with a permeability of approx. 10 Darcy and is dimensioned for a thermal water flow rate of 150 m³/h.
