Contract Award

Decision by the contracting authority to award the contract to a specific bidder.

What is a Contract Award?

The contract award (German: Zuschlag) is the authority's decision to award the contract to a specific bidder. The contract is concluded with the award.

Award Process

  • Most economically advantageous tender: Not always the cheapest
  • Award criteria: Defined in the contract notice
  • Price-performance ratio: Quality and price are evaluated

Information Obligations

Before award, the authority must:

  • Inform unsuccessful bidders (§ 134 GWB)
  • Observe standstill period (10-15 days)
  • Communicate reasons for the decision

After the Award

  • Contract is concluded
  • Authority informs other bidders
  • Publication of contract award
